Designed to grace the dining room or entrance hall, this beautiful Art Deco Dining Table is hand crafted in English Walnut and Macassar Ebony, supported by a curved single pedestal with a hand gilded platinum silver interior. The platinum gilding was applied to the pedestal using the ancient process of ‘water gilding’.
Water gilding, also called gilding on bole, consists of applying loose sheets of precious metal on a layer of red clay (bole). The bole supplies a flexible surface that allows for polishing the platinum with an agate burnisher thereby obtaining a brilliant and very smooth effect. This technique of gilding requires a significant investment in materials and long practice to obtain good results.
The dining table top is radially slip matched in English crown walnut with nickel inlaid lines to enhance the beautiful grain and patterns in the wood which all converge into a nickel central disc. The edges of the circular table are cross banded in macassar ebony with a solid nickel bead running all the way around the underneath of the table’s edge. The curved and hand shaped formed unique pedestal base sits on a radially slip matched macassar ebony circular base with nickel shadow gaps.
